Our History
Our story began in 1961 when J.E. Horne purchased the old Dixie Ford Dealership and started operations as Horne Motor Company on Buncombe Street in downtown Greenville. Mr. Horne was well-known as a mentor, teaching many who entered the automobile business in South Carolina.
In May of 1966, Mr. Foster McKissick, II, purchased Mr. Horne's interest, and the company was renamed Fairway Ford, Inc. A year later, Fairway acquired an eight-and-a-half-acre tract of land on Laurens Road and moved into new facilities in May 1967, which were considered among the best in the region. Strong sales led to remarkable growth, and Louis Williamson, one of Mr. Horne's employees, became President, contributing to Fairway's continued success.
Tragedy struck on the evening of October 25, 1990, when Foster McKissick, II, passed away in a plane crash near Georgetown, South Carolina. At the time of his father's passing, his son, A. Foster McKissick, III, held executive control of Fairway Ford, Inc. and continued as president, leading the company forward.
In March 2001, Fairway expanded by adding the Subaru franchise to the family. Initially located at 1 Haywood Road, the Subaru store moved to its current location on Laurens Road in May 2006. As the business grew, the need for a larger, renovated, and expanded facility led to the completion of a new state-of-the-art building in late 2018.
Today, Fairway continues as a third-generation family dealership, now operated by Foster McKissick, IV. He remains committed to upholding the mission of providing exceptional customer service and promoting lifelong relationships with our customers.
